The Mr. & Miss Dallas Southern Pride All Star Review Show will serve as a fundraising mechanism for communities in Texas affected by Hurricane Harvey as well as a mobilization tactic for the MSM and Transgender (MTF) communities of color. It facilitates the promotion of unity and comradery in a fun-filled atmosphere that is both familiar and affirming for the B/HAP communities. Special Guest Host is Stasha Garcon Sanchez the current reigning Miss Sweetheart International.

 

*HIV testing will take place in the Austin Room from 12:00 PM-6:00PM in Austin and Abounding Prosperity Mobile Testing Unit.

9:00am - 10:00am  “ALERE" Training: Determine Combo Rapid HIV Test Training and Education

This session gives Alere the opportunity to allow the participants to receive hands on training as well as view the training video and PowerPoint presentations on Determine Combo Rapid HIV Test.

 

10:00am - 11:30am  “PrEPping for Sex: Sexpositivity”

    Presenters: Dr. Ayana Elliott, Stephaun “Blahnik" Wallace Room: Salon 2

The purpose of this panel discussion is to help participants take a fresh look at sexual health in a more positive light. Sexual activity has become stigmatized over the resent years with the increase of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases particularly among Black Gay and Bisexual men. Yet there have been very few opportunities to discuss how to develop healthy attitudes towards managing ones sexual health.

 

11:30am -12:30pm “Data: An Intimate View of Data Informed Trends with Focus Populations in the South”

Presenter: Lamont Scales Room: Salon 1

This session will be utilized in bringing the discussion to providers and community concerning the current national epi data, causes of the disparities, and CDC’s current projects regarding MSM and Transgender people of color.

2:00pm - 3:00pm      The Trans Sounds of Black Freedom

Presenter: Michael M.I.L.A.N, MDIV, Scholar in Residence for the Center for Race, Religion and Economic Democracy (CREED) – Adjunct Professor at The New School University NYC

Room: Salon 1

This intellectual investigation examines the historical and present day experiences and disparities that impact trans-identified individuals. This presentation will examine the results that race, risk, and gender identity have in terms of social, political, and economic impact on a community that remains factors in this community’s progression, but also part of its history.

 

3:00pm - 4:00pm     UBE Workshop

Presenter: UBE Room: Salon 2

Bringing the community together is no easy feat and to achieve this objective, United Black Ellument carefully studies various sub communities. One sub– community in particular that has grown in the past year is the Dallas, KiKi Scene. With UBE’s involvement establishing a brave space (UBE Vogue Academy) for this dance phenomenon, we are able to present a workshop illustrating UBE’s reach to this community. It will explain the importance of bridging gaps between the organization and pockets of the community that are hard to reach along with how to implement this tactic to spread the message of safe sex through creativity and individuality.
